The Faculty of Dramatic Arts is a leading academic institution of higher education in theater, film, radio and television in Serbia. With its long tradition of productive creativity, quality study programs, eminent professors and exceptional study conditions, the Faculty is a distinguished educational, artistic and cultural institution. The Faculty of Dramatic Arts is financed by the government of Serbia.
The aims of the Faculty are: discovering and educating talents, fostering students' creative and intellectual potentials, promotion of free expression of ideas, development of artistic, theoretical, managerial and cultural disciplines, studying and life-long learning.
The Faculty has ten graduate studies and ten master studies: Acting (4+1), Theater and radio directing (4+1), Dramaturgy (4+1), Management and production in theater, radio and culture (4+1), Film and TV directing (4+1), Film and TV production (4+1), Camera (4+1), Editing (4+1), Sound recording and design (4+1), and Visual effects, animation and game art (4+1) and Department for Theory and History.
The Faculty also organizes PhD studies: three years Art studies in dramatic audio-visual art, three years scientific studies of the Theory of the dramatic arts, Media and Culture and three years scientific studies of Management, Culture and Media.
Faculty of Dramatic Arts participated in some of the most important national, but also international theatre festivals: Festival d’Avignon; Sterijino Pozorje in Novi Sad; festival “Days of Little Things”, Trebinje, BiH; International Francophone Theater for Students in Poznan, Poland; International Festival of Youth Arts “Via Pontica” in Balchik, Bulgaria; International Theatre Forum in Lituania; The International Theatre Schools Festival in Suceava, Romania; Festival Setkáni in Brno, Czech Republic; International festival of student theatre in Besançon, France; Festival of Actors Academy in Rijeka, Croatia; SKOMRAHI - International Meeting of Students of the Faculties and Academies of Dramatic Arts in Skopje, North Macedonia; festival „Singing mask“ and festival „ArtОкраина“ in Saint Petersburg; VGIK festival, in Moscow; CUT festival – University Theatre Center of Trieste, Italy; International Young Theater Directors Festival in Craiova, International Theatre School Festival in Bucharest and Studio Festival in Târgu Mureş, Romania; FUGA festival in Kopar, Slovenia.
In 2023 the Faculty of Dramatic Arts celebrates 75 years since it's been established. During seven decades, the FDA became recognizable, authentic, credible educational institution and achieved reputation of the most distinguished art school in the region. Since its first days until the present times, FDA's departments, successfully participated in the competitive and complex arts, cultural and media landscape, innovated and improved it's courses, keeping it in line with the most progressive, theoretical and practical, developments in the field. FDA's results, if measured by prizes, theatre productions, students' movies, published books, organized conferences and relevant science projects, would be another proof of our ambitions successfully transformed into real life. Our future steps will be focused on digital and virtual, on convergence between traditional and modern, on keeping our legacy intact while making it more visible and more relevant for the dynamic arts, culture and media market.
